Martin Roberts interviews visitors at A Place in the Sun Live

02/10/2007

Martin Roberts of BBC TV’s ‘Homes under the Hammer’ was the guest interviewer on the AIPP stand at the weekend’s exhibition in Birmingham.

The AIPP wanted to hear the views of international property buyers: what are their worries when buying property overseas? The interviews will be added to AIPP’s Consumer Survey 2007, available online at the moment with results coming out later this month.

‘Most of the visitors I interviewed were immediately reassured that AIPP membership was a means of finding professional companies,’ explained Martin at the show. ‘I was reassured that they were reassured, if that makes sense! Particularly as my company, Property QC, is a Founder Member of the Association.’

The AIPP also featured in several presentations delivered by industry experts at the show. Mark Bishop, Chairman of the Brooklands Group (organiser of the exhibition), told his packed seminar, ‘Building an International Property Portfolio’, that AIPP Members are signed up to a voluntary Code of Conduct. He went on to explain that this gives them reassurance of professional standards and, importantly, recourse to the AIPP if problems occur.

‘Consumer awareness of the AIPP at the show was markedly increased,’ enthused Paul Owen, Chief Executive of the AIPP. ‘This was helped by our new stand, by having more Members at the show than ever before and by several speakers offering support. Having a well-known face such as Martin Roberts always heightens interest and having more than twice as many Members as we had a year ago does no harm either!’

AIPP had redesigned its look at the Autumn shows and this met with approval from within the industry. The new by-line makes clear its role in the market: ‘We’re not here to sell property overseas. We’re here to make sure it’s sold properly.’ The increased marketing of the Association is bearing fruit for its Members.

‘It really makes a difference when we’re talking to clients,’ confirmed Michael Johns, Director of The Right Move Abroad, another Founder Member.

When the report on the Consumer Survey is released, the interviews from the show will be available online for all media and consumer visitors to hear real views from real people in the buying process.

If any consumers would like advice on buying overseas, they should contact the AIPP for information. The new AIPP Members Directory has just been published and is available in the November issue of A Place in the Sun and the October issue of the Irish Property Buyer magazine, both on sale now.

If any international property companies would like to find out more on the benefits of membership, they should contact the AIPP on +44 (0)20 7409 7061.
